Glowing Gerbera

This is another Gerbera from last week's farmers' market. They are still beautiful, maybe we'll have to see if they have anything else interesting this weekend.

Studio Daisy

Usually I like to take pictures of nature where I find it and leave it for others to enjoy. (My neighbors have told me repeatedly to take some of their flowers but I just can't bring myself to cut them.) The trouble is, I have never seen a Gerbera growing that looked quite like this.

There was one cool one that I wish I had gone back to the Nursery for, but it was not variegated. So I had to bring this one home from the farmers' market and set up a little studio shoot.

Of course, he had friends. So you'll probably see more in the next few days.

Shredded Gerbera

This is another beauty from yesterday's trip to La Sumida. I love Gerbera Daisies, but it is particularly nice to see some interesting variations. I usually see them more as cut flowers but this was actually a plant. Might just have to find it a spot in the yard!

Bee's Eye View

A very cool flower at a different angle. One of the best things about building this site is it makes me stop and research my subjects a bit more. Today I found out these guys are native to South Africa. They can be grown from seeds, but the seeds are only viable for 20 days. And, even if you get them to grow in that short window, the resulting plants may have no resemblance to the parent plant.

Daisy Dew

Yesterday was a bit rainy. I kind of like the rain, especially when the timing is right to lay around and listen to it on the roof. Right after the rain is a great time to take pictures and yesterday was exceptional. The clouds were clearing after an overcast day as the sun was slipping down. I'm sure I got some beautiful shots, one of which this is not. I took an uncharacteristically small number of shots so the roll is still in the camera. But I will finish it off soon and upload the results!

In the mean time, the lighting in this photo reminds me of what I was seeing in the viewfinder yesterday.

Spring Daisy

The intense colors of this photo are partially from the fact that it was a particularly beautiful flower. But, it was made more striking by the color of the light at sunset.
